Mr Mustapha and the students of Future Prowess Islamic Foundation School before morning assembly, Future Prowess Islamic Foundation School (I), Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. ; Zannah Bukar Mustapha is a lawyer and founder and director of the Future Prowess Islamic Foundation, an NGO established in 2007 in Maiduguri – the heart of the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria. He is the 2017 Nansen Refugee Award winner. The Future Prowess Islamic Foundation School supports vulnerable children (orphans and internally displaced (IDP) children whose lives have been ravaged by the insurgency. Against all odds and in a turbulent and dangerous environment, Mustapha has created a safe space for children based on peaceful coexistence and gender equity. What started as a single classroom for 36 children, has grown to host over hundreds of students and more than 2,000 children on a waiting list. Received submissions feature 593 unique candidates for the award
Nominations for the 2020 Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity are now closed. The nomination period had officially opened on May 16, 2019, the International Day of Living Together in Peace declared by the UN to uphold the desire to live and act together in order to build a sustainable world of peace, solidarity and harmony. Since then, hundreds of submissions have been received, featuring an unprecedented 593 unique candidates.
